Brussels Capital Region

Since September 2023, individuals and businesses in Brussels are legally required to report their charging station installation.

No smart meter yet? Then you’re required to have one installed.

Under the Electricity Ordinance (Article 16), reporting is mandatory. It helps grid operator Sibelga manage the energy network more efficiently and ensure a reliable electricity supply for everyone in Brussels.

Charging stations over 3.7 kW can draw a significant load and create spikes on the grid. By registering them, Sibelga can:

  • Better manage the balance of the electricity network

  • Prevent congestion and overloading

You can easily register your charging point on the Sibelga website. It’s a small step that makes a big difference to the energy system.
