Install your Q8 home charger
charging car at home with a q8 charging station

Install your Q8 home charger & register it in 7 steps

Handy, isn’t it, charging your smartphone overnight. Now imagine how great it would be if you could do the same with your electric car. Just park your car in front of your house – or in your garage – and a smart charging station fills up your battery. Is a Q8 home charger something for you? Here you’ll find step by step how to apply for one, have it installed and register it.

Step 1: Apply for your home charger

Applying for a Q8 home charging station as a self-employed professional or for your SME is easy and can be done here. Do you have a Q8 electric charging card through your employer? Then pass on your request to your fleet manager. All you still need to do is:

  • Wait for your invitation to the intake meeting with our partner.

  • Already apply for your charging card (via your employer) through the Q8 Liberty web portal.

  • Do you already have a charging card? You’ll soon be able to use it at home as well.

Step 2: Intake meeting & tailored quote

For home chargers, we work together with our partner 50five, who guides you from A to Z. They will contact you and schedule an intake meeting. During a video call, they will evaluate your home situation together with you, for example:

  • What does your home look like (house, apartment)?

  • Where should the home charger be installed (driveway, garage)?

  • Are there any cables or pipes that need to be taken into account?

If necessary, 50five’s specialists may come and inspect the situation on site. This way, you can be sure the installation will run smoothly. Based on all the information, a tailored quote is drawn up. It includes the charging station that best fits your needs, the installation cost and any additional costs, such as excavation works or adjustments to your electrical installation.

Approval of the quote

As an entrepreneur, you naturally decide yourself whether you agree with the quote. Are you an employee? Then your fleet manager will assess the quotes within the available budget and approve or reject them. Are there additional costs that exceed the allocated budget? First check the car policy, then discuss the options with your fleet manager.

Once the quote has been approved, 50five will contact you by email. You can then indicate which bank account number you want the monthly reimbursement to be paid into, or ask for additional information.

Step 4: Installation of your home charger

Everything arranged and approved? Then our partner 50five will install the charging station at your home. Safely and neatly, of course.

Step 5: Inspection of your electrical installation

After installation, an inspection of your charging station is mandatory in Belgium before you can start using it. This is legally stipulated in the AREI (General Regulations on Electrical Installations). The inspection is carried out by an independent inspection body and is usually requested by the installer.

With 50five, this is included in the standard package: our partner requests the inspection, and you receive a confirmation email stating that the charging station may be used, along with the inspection report. Keep this document safe, as it is required for your insurance and may also be requested by the grid operator or when selling your home.

Step 6: Register your charging station

In addition to the application, you also need to register your home charger with your grid operator. This is not only legally required, but also helps you manage your electricity consumption optimally and prevent overloading of the grid. Here we explain how you can easily register your charging point.

Step 7: Charge anytime, anywhere with one charging card

Do you already have a Q8 electric charging card to charge at the office or on the road? Then your existing card will automatically be linked to your home charger. Don’t have a card yet? Contact your fleet manager: they can apply for a Q8 electric charging card for you via Q8 Liberty web. The result is the same: from now on, you charge with one card at home, at the office … and (almost) everywhere on the road. The card gives access to 99% of public charging points in the Benelux, and across Europe you can use more than 1,000,000 chargers!

To make things even easier, link your charging card to the Q8 app. This allows you to start and stop charging sessions, find available chargers nearby, check prices… all from your smartphone.

Arrange reimbursement for home charging

If your employer provides this option and if you have provided your IBAN number (see step 3), charging costs will be reimbursed based on the CREG tariff.
